This month, Spotify began sharing annual streaming stats from 2020 with musicians and bands. The 2020 Artist Wrapped data offers a personalized summary of artists’ year on Spotify, which is the world’s largest streaming platform with more than 130 million paid subscribers.
We’re keeping tabs on Austin artists’ Spotify streaming stats to see how they’re connecting with fans. See below for a running list, and email us at [email protected] to get your Spotify 2020 Artist Wrapped Stats added to the slideshow.
For context, the most-streamed Spotify artist worldwide in 2020 was Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, who had 8.3 billion streams.
Here’s a rundown of what each metric counts:
- Streams: A stream is counted by Spotify when a song is played for more than 30 seconds. Total streams includes all songs where an artist or band is credited as the main artist or remixer. Streams for offline music are counted on the day the listener goes online again.
- Hours: This is the total amount of listening hours on Spotify for an artist in a given time period.
- Listeners: These are unique listeners who stream songs during the time period specified. If someone plays a band’s music multiple times in the displayed time period, they only get counted once.
- Countries: Spotify is available in 92 countries.
